What is flow? Flow is a state of mind where you are at your best and you feel your best. Simple, right? Yes, it is simple but there is more to it. Let me explain.

Think of the greatest athletes or performers of our time. Michael Jordan, Al Pacino, Meryl Streep, Muhammad Ali, are all top performers . All of them, when they were at the top of their game were likely “in the zone” or alternatively “in flow”

In this series I will discuss the characteristics of flow to provide a full understanding of what it is and how you can benefit from it. Here is the first one:

The goals and the deliverables are very clear. There is no question as to what you need to achieve or complete. The race or challenge has a clear and desirable goal and outcome.

When a skydiver, alpinist or a heli-skier performs they certainly have one clear goal in mind: To have breakfast the next morning, or in other words stay alive. A highly desirable goal.

When you see video of the skier going through deep powder, jumping over and off of craggy peaks, and seemingly flying through the air it takes our breath away. The skier may be breathing heavily too, but he or she has one clear goal in mind, and that is to get down the hill alive.

A very clear goal with a highly desirable deliverable.

You don’t have to risk your life or play for the NBA championship to be in flow. Simply having a very clear and desirable goal in mind is enough.

I will let you know how to hack that process later.

So what is your goal? Running a mile? Writing a book? Completing this challenge? You do it faster and more efficently by making sure the goal is clear and desirable.
